AU
Anderson University - is the small private christian liberal arts school where I earned my degrees and began my professional life in the creative marketing space.
While at AU I had the benefit of earning my masters, forming and iterating my definition of marketing, and serving as the second-longest employee of my team. I learned quickly to love in-house design work: the ownership it provides in shaping, developing, and maintaining a brand, designing anything and everything from digital ads to highway billboards, owning the design process from ideation to install, and even enjoying the organizational challenge to maintain professional brand standards against tenured faculty and senior administrators.
Over those 6 years, the most rewarding work hasn’t been the largest mailings or realizing large design installations, but the daily opportunity to work as a member of a close-knit, collaborative team committed to moving the brand forward and meeting our market goals.
UCC
United City Church - was an exciting church plant focused on intentionally weaving a multiethnic, socially diverse congregation through the unity of Christ. It was a big idea, with big dreams, and a lot of ground to cover through a host of volunteer work. I don’t think work should be given freely, but I believe no work is worth doing if you wouldn’t also do it for free. Over the course of about two years, I had the opportunity in my life to put that personal belief of mine into practice.
UCC was in operation for a little over 3 years and during the time of my involvement I volunteered as a designer for the marketing team. Through my involvement I helped develop marketing materials and content for social media, sermon series, print and mail materials, and legs for the brand to run on. With minimal oversight it was a challenging, but rewarding experience that I would gladly undertake again.
120W
120Water - is a digital water company and start-up focused on using its cloud-based software and expert services team to partner with public and private water systems meet federal compliance with LCRR and help them facilitate their water programs more effectively.
My role with 120W was to bring the marketing team’s design demands and the organization’s branding and visual communication needs in-house. As a designer, working remotely, I acted as the hub for maintaining the brand’s integrity in a growing organization with many hands and feet acting independently.
While the position was short-lived to the woes of a second round of funding and shifting organizational leadership’s priorities, for a brief time I got to live out one of my professional dreams. A small, driven marketing team focused on demand gen for a business with a top-of-the-line product used for public good and welfare. Do you run something similar and need help? Let’s talk.
HLP
Hannah Lockhart Photography - no one is more proud than I am to be married to a small business owner and photographer successfully living out her dream and passion. As much as I’d like to take credit for it, the best I can really attribute to myself is the assorted marketing collateral and sounding board for business advice over the past 10 years. Between AU and HLP, I was able to focus on designing for a similar target audience that values beautiful original photography. I have learned, that when the photography is top-notch, you, as a designer, can realize all your minimalist design dreams.
